Greenwich Village radical who landed in Provincetown for the summer of 1915 with his wife, Ida Rauh and laid witness to Neith Boyce's Constancy.The couple became active participants in the inner workings of the Provincetown Players. Meanwhile, his socialist monthly, The Masses helped launch the journalistic career of Reds star, Jack Reed. He would stand trial twice for opposing the United States involvement in World War I along side of Floyd Dell. After Stalin kicked off his Great Purge, Eastman like many others, renounced his support for the communist call. He would still remain politically active in his twilight years as an early vocal opponent of the Vietnam War.
